Refurbish your piece

The table you inherited, the dresser from a Marketplace bargain, the chairs that have survived three moves. We collect it, take off the tired finish, fix what's loose or broken, and finish it by hand in oil, stain or paint.

South African homes are full of beautiful timber: indigenous kiaat and stinkwood, home-grown pine and saligna, and imported oak, teak and walnut. Pick a sample to see how to spot it, what it's worth and how we'd bring it back.

Four ways to check at home

  1. Find a bare spotLook underneath, inside a drawer or at the back, where there's no finish or stain.
  2. Look at the endOn solid wood the grain on top carries on down the end. On veneer it stops at a thin layer.
  3. Lift itPine and meranti feel light. Rhodesian teak and stinkwood are surprisingly heavy.
  4. Try a fingernailOn a hidden spot: pine and yellowwood dent easily, while kiaat, oak and teak barely mark.

Collection and delivery

We collect it and bring it home.

We book a trusted bakkie or truck for each trip, wrap your piece in moving blankets and stretch wrap, and photograph it before it's loaded. You get the driver's live tracking on the day.

Our vision

A South Africa where good wooden furniture is passed on, not thrown out.

Our mission

To give solid wood furniture a second life: restoring the pieces people already own so they last for generations and stay out of landfill.

Restore before you replace. Most tired furniture isn't broken. It needs a clean, a sand and a fresh finish, for a fraction of the price of new.

Solid wood lasts. Unlike chipboard, it can be sanded back and refinished again and again. Looked after, a good table outlives its first owners.

Less waste. Every piece we restore is one less in a skip, and one less new piece made, shipped and wrapped in plastic.

Who we are

Two people and a garage workshop.

Reynard runs the workshop: quoting from your photos, repairs, finishing and the custom builds. Kayla runs everything else: your messages, bookings, collections and invoices.

We started by restoring our own pieces and found we couldn't stop. We name the timber, the repair and the finish, we tell you about repairs instead of hiding them, and every piece leaves with our mark burnt into it.

Before you ask.

What furniture do you work on?

Solid wood and good wood veneer: tables, chairs, chests of drawers, sideboards, desks, bedside tables and wardrobes. We don't refurbish chipboard or MDF, because it doesn't survive stripping, and we don't do upholstery apart from re-covering dining chair seats.

How can you quote from photos?

Send the whole piece from the front and side, close-ups of any damage, and rough measurements. That's enough for a written quote within 24 hours. We check it again when the piece arrives and ask you before any extra work.

How long does it take?

Small pieces about a week, chests and sideboards about two weeks, dining tables with chairs two to three weeks. Oil and lacquer need time to cure, and we don't rush that.

What if something gets damaged?

We photograph your piece with you before it moves and note any existing damage on a job card. If something goes wrong while it's in our care, we fix it at our cost.

Can you paint it instead?

Yes. Paint or a two-tone finish adds 15% to the price. If the wood is beautiful underneath, we'll say so first.

How much does it cost to restore furniture?

It depends on the piece and how much work it needs. As a guide: a dining chair is R400 to R1,000, a bedside table R650 to R1,700, a chest of drawers R1,500 to R4,100 and a six-seater dining table R1,900 to R5,000. Painting adds 15%. Use the estimator above for your piece, then send photos for a firm written quote.

Which areas do you cover?

We're based in Bryanston and collect and deliver across Johannesburg, mostly in the northern suburbs: Sandton, Fourways, Randburg, Rivonia, Sunninghill, Lonehill, Midrand, Northcliff and Rosebank. Delivery is priced by distance from the workshop, and you can always drop off and collect yourself.

Where are you, and can I drop off?

We work from a home workshop in Bryanston, Johannesburg. Drop-off and collection are by appointment and cost nothing. We'll send the address when you book.

How do I pay?

EFT or card. A deposit books your slot, and the balance is due once you've seen the finished photos, before delivery.

Will you buy my old furniture?

Sometimes. If it's solid wood and worth saving, send us photos and a price on WhatsApp.
